settle volunteers create new garden at Home-Start Hertfordshire
settle volunteers have transformed the overgrown garden at Home-Start Hertfordshire into a relaxing space for local families to enjoy. The garden was officially opened on Friday 5 October by Stevenage based author, Ken Follett, and settle’s executive director of customer services Anita Khan.
When staff at settle heard the garden needed a makeover they were keen to help and over 30 volunteers created a calming environment to inspire children’s imaginations and let parents relax. During the past year, colleagues at settle have raised over £3000 for Home-Start as their chosen charity, with raffles, cake bakes and tuck shops to raise funds to support their important work.
Suzy Moody, Strategic Manager at Home-Start said: “Refurbishing the garden means so much to Home-Start. It’s opened a lovely space for children and families to play. Our volunteers will also be able to bring families along to enjoy the space. It will be lovely for our volunteers to meet and socialise and for staff to have a calming and relaxing lunch break.”
Gavin Cansfield, chief executive at settle said: “We’re here to help people who are struggling to find a place to live and that often includes families with complex situations. Home-Start can be a great help to them, so colleagues chose to donate funds and volunteer their time to support the good work.”
