£20m redevelopment of Hitchin’s John Barker Place to go ahead.
Our plans to redevelop John Barker Place on Hitchin’s Westmill estate and provide a new children’s play area nearby were unanimously approvedat the NHDC planning committee meeting on Thursday 23 January 2020.
We will now move forward with preparations to begin the development work, which will see us provide 83 homes and two shops at John Barker Place over the first two phases of development, along with additional new homes in a further third phase, and a new play area on the edge of Swinburne playing fields.
We will continue working closely with residents across the Westmill community as we progress these plans.
Our commitment is for the new children’s play area to be open before any building work begins on the John Barker Place site. We expect the new children’s play area at Swinburne playing fields to open during summer 2020, with building work to start at John Barker Place shortly after this. An additional play area will also be provided with the new homes at John Barker Place on completion of the third phase of the development.
