Visit marks progress on new affordable homes in Meldreth
We recently marked progress on five new affordable homes in Meldreth along wth representatives from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and South Cambridgeshire District Council.
The development includes four two-bedroom flats for affordable rent along with a two-bedroom bungalow for shared ownership. The homes have been built by settle supported by grant funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.
Residents are expected to be able to move into the new homes in December. The shared ownership property has already been sold and the flats will shortly be released through the choice-based lettings scheme operated by Home-Link. The flats will be available for rent by people in housing need with a connection to the village of Meldreth and the surrounding area.
Anyone who is interested in renting the flats is urged to make sure they are registered on Home-Link and ready to bid on the flats.
Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough said: “Providing social and affordable housing is a key part of our strategy at Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority. It’s important to push forward with support and funding for housing projects, and to achieve this we need the help and co-operation of everyone from landowners to parish councillors and house builders to make schemes like this development in Meldreth come alive.
“Giving people with the opportunity to find homes and to continue to live in their local communities is something I feel very strongly about, and I’m delighted that we’ve been involved in the development of these five new affordable homes.”
Cllr John Batchelor, Lead Cabinet Member for Housing at South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “Visiting these new homes this week was a pleasure. One of our Council’s commitments is truly affordable housing and for people who’ve grown up locally or set down roots in our villages, homes like these make it possible to stay in their local area without being priced out of the market. It’s brilliant these homes can be offered to people with a local connection to Meldreth and the surrounding area.”
Gavin Cansfield, Chief Executive at settle, added: “We’re delighted to see such great progress on these new affordable homes in Meldreth, settle’s first development in South Cambridgeshire. Our purpose at settle is to help people who are struggling to find a place to live, and to help them live comfortably in their homes.
“We’re really pleased to have worked with partners at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and South Cambridgeshire District Council to provide this development in Meldreth. They’re lovely homes in a great setting and we look forward to continuing to provide more new affordable homes in this area.”
