Phase 2 nears completion with new affordable homes at John Barker Place
We are delighted to mark a significant milestone as we approach the completion of Phase 2 of the regeneration programme at John Barker Place, Hitchin.
The new homes follow the completion of the first phase, Kingfisher House in 2022, and will include 24 new homes for social rent in Oughton Court and Cornmill House with residents moving into their homes between mid-January and early February.
Additionally, Willow Rise, located at the rear of the development, will offer 22 new homes for shared ownership, set to launch in the coming months.
Meeting the local housing need
In December, we were delighted to welcome key partners and stakeholders, including, the Leader of North Herts Council, Daniel Allen; local Councillor, Cllr Nigel Mason, James Hick from Homes England and members of our partners at Lovell Partnerships Ltd to view one of the homes for social rent.
Fiona Coulson CIHCM, Executive Director of Development at Settle, said:
“We’re so proud of these new affordable homes and really looking forward to welcoming residents into their new homes from the middle of January, many of whom are already part of this community. I’m also very proud of our development team who have done an amazing job to get to this point. We are also grateful for the support and funding that we have received from Homes England and North Herts Council which helped make these homes possible.”
Cllr Daniel Allen, Leader of North Herts Council, added:
“As the leader of the local council, I am so proud to welcome these homes into Westmill. They are part of our community, and they will make sure that all residents have somewhere safe to live, have somewhere that will really support them and have their forever homes.”
Phase 3 planning
We are waiting for final permission to be finalised for Phase 3 of the development at John Barker Place in Westmill.
The development of 48 new affordable homes will be a mixture of social rent and shared ownership homes on the site of Freemans Close.
