Responding to recent winds and rain

Two settle vans

Our priority at Settle is to keep residents and colleagues safe, so we wanted to tell you how we’re continuing to deliver our services and support residents during bad weather.

Emergencies

If you need to report an emergency repair, please call us immediately. Our phone lines may be busier and wait times longer than usual so please do wait on the line or you may be offered the option of a call-back.

We will complete an emergency repair within 24 hours to make the situation safe and reduce the risk, provided it is safe for our colleagues to proceed.  There may be further works required to fix the problem, which we will complete under a different priority at a later date.

Non-emergency repairs

We’re expecting our phone lines to be busier and wait times to be longer than usual so we kindly ask that you only call if in an emergency as this will keep the phone lines free for those who need them.

For non-urgent issues please try calling us at a later date. For more information on how we manage repairs to  things like fencing or guttering, please refer to our Repairs Service Standards for more details.

Repairs outside the boundary of your home

Tips to prepare when bad weather hits

There are a number of steps you can take to protect yourself and your home.

These include:

  • Securing loose objects outside a property such as bins, ladders, trampolines and outdoor games, garden furniture and tools.
  • Checking fences and roof tiles are secure.
  • Keeping gutters and drains clear of debris such as moss and leaves if you can.
  • Closing and securing external doors and windows.
  • Making sure you know how to reset your fusebox in the event of your electrics tripping. Our colleague Ray shows you how to reset your fusebox in this short video.
  • It’s also a good idea to familiarise yourself with how to to turn off your gas and water. Ray also explains how to turn your gas off in this video.
  • Charge mobile phones and any other critical devices including battery packs.
