February is LGBT+ History Month – join our webinar to find out more

LGBTQ History Month

At Settle, we care a lot about inclusion. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and free to be their true selves, whether that’s residents, colleagues or local partners.

LGBT+ History Month is an annual month-long observance dedicated to recognising and celebrating the history, contributions and experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and other individuals and communities.

It takes place every February in the United Kingdom, though it is celebrated at different times of the year in other countries. The theme of this year’s LGBT+ History month is Activism and Social Change.

LGBTQ+ History through the lens of Stonewall Housing

Join our webinar on the 27th February at 2pm with Stonewall Housing. Dean Anderson, Settle’s Managing Director, will be co-hosting this event alongside Alex Duffy, Training Lead at Stonewall Housing.

We’d love you to join – either on the day or to provide questions in advance that we can ask during the discussion.

The session will highlight key milestones in LGBTQ+ History, including; homelessness in the 1980s, LGBTQ+ life in the 1980s, the impact of Section 28, the fight to make the age of consent equal, the HIV/AIDS crisis, and LGBTQ+ experiences of housing today.Through real recordings from service users and former colleagues, Stonewall Housing provides an authentic glimpse into LGBTQ+ life over the decades.

We want to use this webinar to also give residents and colleagues an opportunity to ask questions about our work at Settle in this area, and use the discussion it prompts to shape our future work on equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring it is inclusive of both residents and colleagues.

How to take part:

  • Send us your questions – is there anything you want to ask about LGBT+ History Month or any of the listed topics? Submit it here for it to be answered by our panel. You will also be able to ask questions during the session. If your question is not asked on the day, we’ll always endeavour to answer it afterwards.
  • Register for the webinar details – please follow this link through our online community Settle Connect to register for the event. You will be asked to provide your first and last name, along with your email address and we will send you joining details.

More on Stonewall Housing

Founded by activists in 1983, Stonewall Housing was created in response to the number of LGBTQ+ individuals facing homelessness or at risk of homelessness simply for being who they are. Since then, Stonewall Housing have provided safe spaces for tens of thousands of people across the UK. For many, Stonewall Housing has been a refuge in times of crisis, and for others, it has become a source of lifelong connection and chosen family.
