Awaab’s Law

On 6th February the Government announced plans for the implementation of Awaab’s Law.
This will be implemented in stages from October 2025, initially focused on requirements for social landlords like Settle to investigate and fix dangerous damp and mould in set time periods and to repair all emergency hazards within 24 hours.
The Law has been introduced following the tragic death of two-year-old Awaab Ishak who died from a respiratory condition caused by prolonged exposure to mould in a property owned by a housing association in Rochdale, in the north of England.
You can see the full statement provided by the Government here.
We welcome the update provided by the Government and the ongoing focus that Awaab’s Law provides on improving the safety and quality of all social housing.
We look forward to receiving further information from the Government about the detailed requirements of landlords like Settle, and will provide updates to Settle residents as soon as we have this information.
In the meantime, we wanted to remind all Settle residents that we continue to take reports of any type of mould in any of our properties extremely seriously.
