Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships and graduate schemes offer a great opportunity to join Settle. When these opportunities become available, they will be posted on our current vacancies page.

These exciting posts come with a whole host of benefits including working for a local organisation supporting the local community, 27 days annual leave, hybrid working, and the opportunity to spend time with all the housing areas of settle. As a graduate you’ll also be part of the GEM programme and achieve a level 4 chartered institute of housing qualification in the two-year placement.

Below are testimonials from some of our past apprentices and graduates who give an overview about their own experiences.

What’s it like?

Being an apprentice for settle has been an incredible experience that has completely transformed my life. From day one, I’ve been immersed in a world of hands-on learning and endless possibilities. It’s not like your typical classroom setting—here, I get to roll up my sleeves and dive right into the action.

What makes apprenticeship so amazing is the chance to work alongside experienced professionals who are eager to share their knowledge. They’ve become more than just mentors, they’re like family. They’ve shown me the ropes, taught me valuable skills, and boosted my confidence every step of the way.

If you’re considering becoming an apprentice, I say go for it! It’s a fantastic opportunity to unlock your potential, bridge the gap between theory and practice, and lay the foundation for a successful career.

Ryan, apprentice

I joined settle as a ‘sustainability graduate’ through the Charityworks Graduate Scheme. Before I joined, I had very little exposure to housing as a career option. However, my experience as a grad was brilliant – I learned a lot about the sector and was able to develop many skills.

As a grad, I worked on some exciting research projects, such as a report exploring how green spaces impact the health and wellbeing of our residents. Being a grad also enabled me to grow outside of my role – for example, I loved being part of settle’s ‘value everyone’ colleague group on equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as helping out with a number of community days and other engagement events.

The best part of my time as a grad at settle was the culture – everyone is so warm and welcoming, which makes such a difference!

Akshaya, graduate

I joined settle housing association as a development graduate trainee, becoming part of the housing development team. Having studied History at University and worked predominantly in customer facing roles, I went into housing development with fresh eyes!

The development team were fantastic at teaching me everything I needed to know. I had a patient and motivated manager, whose belief in me helped me to learn how to work well in the role.
There is a real culture of connection, friendliness and teamwork at settle – we have a great social space in the atrium, fruity Wednesday and even breakfasts provided on team brief days!

settle really encouraged me to build a support network by opening connections with others who had joined the organisation. Learning sessions and talks are often hosted, allowing you to learn more about the housing sector as a whole and how you can apply it to your own role.

There are many groups or training sessions you can get involved in outside your role. From the Together we Care group to giving something back days, it really is an organisation that wants to support you grow into your own.
